Voluntary redeployment scheme for seven counties from September 2018

The pilot voluntary redeployment scheme will operate in counties Galway, Roscommon, Donegal, Cavan, Monaghan, Louth and Meath from September 2018.   The scheme allows permanent/CID teachers who are employed in schools in counties Galway, Roscommon, Donegal, Cavan, Monaghan, Louth and Meath to express an interest in being redeployed to another post primary school anywhere in the country.

Deadline for retrospective vetting extended to end of April 2018

Circular 0072/2017 reminds schools of their statutory obligations under section 21 of the National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Acts 2012 to 2016 (the Vetting Act) in respect of the retrospective vetting of teaching staff, non-teaching staff and others who have not previously been Garda vetted and who undertake relevant work or activities with children or vulnerable persons.

TUI comment on PE becoming an examinable Leaving Cert subject

TUI welcomes the announcement that Physical Education (PE) will become an examinable Leaving Certificate subject.  This development is consistent with that of PE in Junior Cycle, where it is an intrinsic part of student wellbeing. However, adequate funding must be provided to allow all schools to enhance facilities where required, particularly schools in communities that were worst hit by the recession.

Public Service Pay and Pensions Bill, 2017 - please continue to lobby your representatives

The Public Service Pay and Pensions Bill, 2017 passed second stage in the Oireachtas on Wednesday night (29th November) and it is worth noting that TUI was referenced by a number of TDs and, in fact, the lobbying letter which was sent to all workplaces was read into the Dáil record.  This clearly shows that lobbying works  -  thank you for your efforts in this regard.

Teacher unions outline recruitment crisis in teaching profession as a result of pay inequality

Pay inequality has created a teacher recruitment and retention crisis that will have severe repercussions for the education system unless it is urgently tackled, according to the three main teacher unions. In a joint statement, the Presidents of TUI, INTO and ASTI have called for an acceleration of the process of pay restoration for teachers employed since 2011.

Draft text for lobbying politicians on Public Service Pay and Pensions Bill

The Public Service Pay and Pensions Bill has been described by the TUI as an oppressive attempt to coerce compliance with a national agreement. The Union has contacted the Education and Public Expenditure and Reform spokespersons of the main Opposition parties as well as other political party and independent representatives to seek to have amendments to the Bill tabled.
