Redeployment

Redeployment involves being moved from one’s current employer to a new employer. Under the Public Service Agreement 2010 - 2014, a redeployment scheme for teachers was put in place which has been continued under subsequent national agreements including the LRA, the PSSA and Building Momentum. Public servants in permanent positions are liable for redeployment.

Any person who received a Contract of Indefinite Duration (CID) as a result of the Ward Report will be subject to redeployment if her/his subjects become surplus to the curricular requirements of their school. See Circular Letter 24/2015.

Transfer of teachers – ETB sector

A TUI/IVEA Transfer Agreement for VECs (now ETBs since July 2013), is in place since March 1999 (and updated in April 2025) and deals with the process to be used by ETBs for the transfer of teachers.  The agreement sets out the nationally agreed protocol for the transfer of teachers. Transfers were notified to teachers before the end of May. Any transfers indicated to a teacher during the summer break should be immediately reported to a branch officer or area representative. The Teacher Transfer Agreement between the TUI and IVEA (now ETBI) accepts the principle of ‘last in, first out’.

Reasonable expenses of removal actually incurred may be allowed to a teacher on transfer.
