TUI members employed by Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim ETB to take industrial action over breach of teacher transfer agreement

Members of the Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Branches of the Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) employed by the Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Education and Training Board (MSLETB) will take strike action in September because of the continuing failure of the employer to honour and implement the terms of the relevant collective agreement on the transfer of staff.

TUI extends best wishes to class of 2024 as State exams get underway

The Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) has wished students the best of luck ahead of this year’s State examinations.   The union has said that teachers are in favour of positive Senior Cycle change that benefits the education system, but has highlighted survey findings that show the serious concerns of classroom teachers around grossly inadequate resourcing. (Survey findings at end of statement)   TUI, which represents 20,500 teachers and lecturers in second level, adult/further education and at third level, has warned that Senior Cycle redevelopment cannot be carried out ‘on a shoestring’.   Speaking today, TUI President David Waters said:

TUI members at third level vote overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action in national ballot

The Teachers' Union of Ireland (TUI) today announced that its members at third level have voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action, up to and including strike action, over non-adherence by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science (DFHERIS) and institute management to a collective agreement concerning the establishment of technological universities.

At a special meeting this morning, the Executive Committee of the Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) voted unanimously to ballot its members at third level for industrial action, up to and including strike action, over non-adherence by management to a collective agreement concerning the establishment of Technological Universities.

New survey: 64% of schools have unfilled vacancies, just 1% believe enough being done by Government

The teacher recruitment and retention crisis in Irish second level schools is worsening, according to the findings of a new survey carried out in over 100 schools by the Principals’ and Deputy Principals’ Association of the Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI).   TUI is calling for immediate action to ensure that schools can continue to put teachers in front of classes and that students have access to the full breadth of subjects. Secure jobs of full hours and career progression opportunities are essential to tackle the crisis.     The survey of principals and deputy principals in 104 second level schools was carried out in September and October this year and represents a strong sample of the sector’s approximately 730 schools.
