The Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) has welcomed the announcement by the Minister for Education this afternoon in relation to adjustments to assessment arrangements for students due to sit State examinations in 2024.
In this regard, it must of course be borne in mind that most students who will sit the Leaving Certificate in 2024 - next year - will not have had the valuable experience of sitting Junior Cycle examinations.
We also welcome confirmation of the provision of a deferred sitting for those candidates who have suffered a bereavement or major illness or injury. This is a critically important and positive measure that the TUI had advocated for.
Clearly, the announcement of a date for the publication of results also provides welcome certainty.
