General Secretary's Address to Congress 2016 - key points

TUI members in second level/further and adult education sectors to strike unless crisis issues meaningfully addressed

The Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) has announced that its members at second level and in the further and adult education sectors will take a day’s strike action on Wednesday, 24th February, unless meaningful progress is made with the Department of Education and Skills. A meeting is set to take place between TUI and the Department next week to discuss issues across all sectors.

Lecturers strike over funding and educational crisis - TUI calls on Department to engage meaningfully on key issues

4,000 Institute of Technology lecturers and researchers in the country’s 14 Institutes of Technology are today taking strike action over the damage inflicted on their sector and on the service to students by an era of cutbacks. The strike has been organised by the Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI), which represents academic and research staff in the sector.

TUI to ballot for industrial action over significant Technological Universities Bill concerns

The Teachers Union of Ireland (TUI) today announced that it will ballot its members in the Institutes of Technology for industrial action, up to and including strike action, over grave concerns around significant aspects of the Technological Universities Bill. The Bill, which is very complex and has major implications for the Institute of Technology sector, is currently being rushed through the enactment process with reckless haste and without the provision of adequate opportunity for the deep and considered engagement and debate that is required.

Teachers to strike before general election unless demand for meaningful talks met

Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) members in the second level and further/adult education sectors have voted by a margin of 89% to engage in a campaign of industrial action to secure resolution to crisis issues. Of key concern are the precarious employment status and income poverty of new and recent entrants to the profession and the continuing, damaging effects of cutbacks on the service provided to students.

Institute of Technology lecturers to strike over crisis within sector

Institute of Technology academic staff represented by the Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) will go on a day’s strike on Wednesday, February 3rd to commence a campaign of industrial action over a number of crisis issues within their sector. In December, third level members voted in a national ballot by a margin of 92% in favour of a campaign of industrial action up to and including strike action.
