Survey highlights serious morale and workload issues within teaching profession

Almost 30% of recent entrants to post-primary teaching believe it is unlikely or very unlikely that they will still be in the profession in ten years’ time, according to the findings of a new survey by the Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI). The union is calling for an acceleration of pay parity and an end to discrimination against younger teachers.

€1,000 pay restoration brought forward five months to 1st April 2017

A €1,000 pay restoration on annualised salaries (ie salaries exclusive of allowances) up to €65,000, which was originally due for payment from 1st September 2017 under the Lansdowne Road Agreement (LRA), has been brought forward by five months and will now be paid from 1st April 2017.

PISA findings a major endorsement of Irish teachers and lecturers

The Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) has described the findings of the PISA 2015 study as an endorsement of the high quality work of Irish teachers and students at a time of hugely damaging cuts to education. In all three areas which were examined, the scores of Irish students were significantly above the OECD average.
