Take a moment to help fix our broken housing system

Dear Colleagues,

We’re asking for your help to fix our broken housing system.

Many thousands of young workers and families are locked out of the housing market, unable to buy a home or rent secure accommodation.

Official policy has failed to ensure a proper supply of affordable homes or rental properties. Rents in some areas are up 30% since 2008 and house prices by a staggering 74%, in recent years.

Local authorities have built just over 1000 new homes since 2017 which is entirely inadequate. It is a catalogue of failure that has left over 10,000 people homeless, including almost 4000 children.

But there are solutions. Many housing experts and agencies believe we can tackle the crisis by building more public housing and by creating a legal Right to Housing.

A legal Right to Housing would help ensure all citizens have access to adequate shelter. It is backed by the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU), the TUI and affiliated unions and the Raise the Roof campaign.

You can help tackle the crisis by signing the Right to Housing petition now and encouraging work colleagues and friends and family to do likewise.

Thank you for your help.

Seamus Lahart, President, TUI

John MacGabhann, General Secretary, TUI
Patricia King, General Secretary, ICTU
