A circular letter published today by the Department of Education and Skills outlines new entitlements which will benefit thousands of temporary and part-time teachers.
The circular letter sets out the detailed arrangements and procedures for the implementation of seven of the recommendations of the Expert Group on Fixed-Term and Part-Time Employment in Primary and Second Level Education in Ireland to be put in place from the commencement of the school year 2015/2016.
The new arrangements mean teachers in temporary positions will become eligible for a Contract of Indefinite Duration (CID) after two years of teaching, provided they meet the criteria for a CID.
The circular follows a lengthy campaign by the teacher unions to have the crisis of casualisation in second-level teaching addressed.
It is important that all temporary and part-time teachers are familiar with the circular letter.
