TUI representatives meet with Minister Howlin re new entrant pensions

TUI representatives and representatives from the ASTI and INTO today met with Minister for Expenditure and Public Reform Brendan Howlin in an effort to reverse the proposed new pension scheme for new entrants to the public service.

The Public Service Pensions (Single Scheme) and Remuneration Bill 2011 was published last week by the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Brendan Howlin.

An independent report prepared by the actuarial firm Trident on behalf of the teacher unions pointed out serious flaws in the pension proposals.

TUI is gravely concerned that the measures would lead to vastly different conditions of service for teachers and lecturers doing identical jobs.
