Make sure to mark this occasion in your workplace on Friday, 4th or Monday, 7th October!

Every year on 5th October, the TUI participates in World Teachers’ Day, an important celebration of, and tribute to, the world’s educators. It is a time to acknowledge all that you do and the vital role that you play in educating and unleashing the potential of the students you encounter throughout your career.

Theme for 2024

Teachers play a pivotal role in shaping the future by nurturing students and driving educational progress. However, to fully harness their potential, it's crucial that their voices are heard and valued in the decision-making processes that affect their profession.

This year’s World Teachers’ Day highlights the need to address the systemic challenges teachers face and to establish a more inclusive dialogue about their role in education. The 2024 celebrations will focus on "Valuing teacher voices: towards a new social contract for education", underscoring the urgency of calling for and attending to teachers' voices to address their challenges but, most importantly, to acknowledge and benefit from the expert knowledge and input that they bring to education.

Celebrate the Profession

On World Teachers’ Day, it is important also to celebrate the profession and our enormous contribution to society. World Teachers’ Day promotes the ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers (1966) and the UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Higher Education Teaching Personnel (1997). Take the opportunity to celebrate all that you do, it is deserved.

Make sure to mark this special occasion on Friday 4th or Monday 7th October!

World Teachers’ Day is an extremely important day and as an acknowledgement of its importance – and yours – in promoting and sustaining the TUI’s core values of justice and inclusion, the members of the TUI in schools, colleges, institutes, technological universities, and centres are encouraged to mark the day with the purchase of refreshments for members. As World Teachers’ Day falls on Saturday, 5th October, it could be celebrated in workplaces on Friday, 4th October or Monday, 7th October. The cost of purchase can be recouped from the local branch by submitting receipts directly to the TUI Branch Treasurer (Please contact your branch in advance for any guidance on limits etc).

If posting any images of celebrations or events on social media, make sure to tag us so we can further share them.

Enjoy the occasion and thank you for your commitment to your students and their education!
