Dear Branch Officers and Workplace Representatives,

The Teachers’ Union of Ireland is calling on all branches and workplace committees to organise and participate in a voluntary solidarity demonstration where possible on Thursday, 16th October, as part of the national “Stand Out for Gaza” initiative.

This action, initiated by health care workers and supported by trade unions and civil society organisations, invites workers across the country to stand in visible solidarity with the people of Gaza — and in particular, with our colleagues in education and healthcare whose institutions and workplaces have been devastated.

Branches and workplace committees are encouraged to:

Gather outside your school, college, or workplace at a time that best suits your staff — before work, at lunchtime, or after work. Obviously, service to students would not be affected in anyway.

Hold a short solidarity stand-out, with placards or banners where possible.

Share photos and videos on social media using the hashtag #StandOutForGaza, tagging @TUI, so that we can share and highlight your actions nationally.

As educators, we have watched with deep concern the destruction of Gaza’s schools, universities, and hospitals. It is vital that we stand together to affirm our commitment to peace, justice, and the right to education for all.

Participation in this action is voluntary. However, a strong, united show of solidarity from TUI members across Ireland will send a clear message — that Irish educators stand for humanity, dignity, and international solidarity.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment.

In unity and solidarity,

Le gach dea-ghuí,

Anthony Quinn
