The TUI, along with the other education partners, was recently invited to a consultation by the Inspectorate. The consultation focused on two new forms of inspection that are being piloted this term. The TUI would encourage all members working in post-primary schools to familiarise themselves with the pilot which will start in a small number of schools but is likely to be mainstreamed from January 2019.
The Inspectorate is developing a new evaluation model entitled the Evaluation of Provision for Students with Additional and Special Educational Needs in Post Primary Schools (SEN-PP). The main reason for this development is to ensure consistency and coherence between the evaluation of provision for students with additional and special educational needs and the resource allocation model for schools which was introduced in September 2017. The SEN-PP model will also reflect the publication of Looking at Our School 2016: A Quality Framework for Post Primary Schools, which was published by the Department in September 2016.
The Department has also developed a range of oversight measures to monitor schools’ compliance with their obligations under the Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post-Primary Schools 2017. The Child Protection and Safeguarding Inspection (CPSI) model is one element of these oversight measures. The CPSI model will monitor the extent to which the Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post-Primary Schools (2017) are implemented in a sample of schools.
