Further to our email of 25th February, updated Guidance on the Leaving Certificate 2021 is available here.

This Guidance supersedes the advice that issued on 25th February and takes account of all information currently available.

This Guidance sets out a range of areas, including:

  • The timeline (as is known to date) for the parallel processes
  • The continuation of teacher autonomy.  As the teacher of your subject to your Leaving Certificate class/es, you are the expert and you have both a right and an obligation to continue to exercise your professional judgement.  It is therefore for you - not for school management, students, parents or external commentators -  to decide how and in what order to deliver the syllabus for the remainder the school year, up to 28th May.
  • Detailed clarification on the cancellation of mock examinations
  • The role of the teacher in advising on subject levels given the decision of Government to offer parallel processes this year
  • Additional advice on facilitating Oral examinations - an entirely voluntary process for teachers - it does not form any part of your contract as a teacher or your obligations to your school.
  • What can and cannot be taken into account when determining the estimated percentages marks as part of the SEC Accredited Grades process.
  • Clarification on setting additional assessments, if required, to inform the SEC Accredited Grades process – individual teacher decision.
  • The role of teachers on protected leave in relation to the SEC Accredited Grades process
  • The legal and other protections for members
