Talks to address pay equality for public servants recruited since 2011 got underway today. Public service unions met with officials from government departments, led by the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform (DPER), with talks expected to continue over a number of weeks. TUI was represented by the Union’s President and General Secretary.

Teacher unions insisted that pay equality must be achieved. Teachers have been particularly affected by pay inequality due to factors including the strong recruitment of teachers in the period since January 2011, the reversion from the previous starting point on scale, the unique length of teacher pay scales and the removal of the HDip allowance.

Each of the three teacher unions adopted a common motion on pay equality at the Easter conferences.
