The term of office of the current Teaching Council comes to an end in March 2016. The Council has 37 members and 16 of these are teachers who are elected by teachers. An election for teacher members will be held online from 22 February to noon on 9 March. Full instructions for online voting, including two PIN numbers, will be posted out to teachers by the Teaching Council.

TUI has officially endorsed candidates in two constituencies in which elections are taking place. These are:

Mairéad Glynn, Community and Comprehensive Schools Sector

Denis Magner, ETB Sector Leinster

Please note that these are the only officially endorsed TUI candidates in these sectors. The union urges all eligible TUI members to vote for these candidates in order to ensure a strong, coherent voice for the profession.

The profiles of the two candidates above have also issued in hard copy to relevant workplaces within these sectors.

A third TUI-endorsed candidate, Séamus Ó Fearraigh (ETB Sector Connaught, Munster and Ulster), was not opposed and has been deemed elected.

Separately, TUI is also entitled to nominate two representatives to the Teaching Council. These are: Gerry Quinn, TUI President and Claire Markey, Executive Committee member and Area Representative for Co Dublin and Dun Laoghaire ETB.
