TUI welcomes Minister’s announcement in relation to shelving of plans for teachers to assess own students for state certification purposes

The Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) has welcomed the announcement by Minister for Education Norma Foley that plans for teachers to assess their own students for state certification purposes will now be shelved.  Speaking this morning, TUI General Secretary Michael Gillespie said: ‘We welcome this morning’s news.

TUI Pre-Retirement training 2023/24

Two day-long pre-retirement training events for 2023/24 have been organised for those members who are looking into retiring. The first will take place in Athlone on 23rd November 2023, while the second will take place in Dublin on 7th February 2024.

Payment of the PME allowance now confirmed for all eligible Post Primary and Further Ed teachers

Agreed outcome in relation to the payment of the Professional Master of Education (PME)/Higher Diploma in Education Allowance (H.Dip in Ed) or an accepted equivalent qualification for teachers whose date of first qualified teaching service is between 5th December 2011 and 28th April 2013 and who were appointed to the existing pre-2011 pay scale.

'Precarious employment status driving graduates away from teaching’ – TUI

The Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) has said that Budget 2024 must provide the required resources to tackle the teacher recruitment and retention crisis in second level by increasing teaching allocations to schools allowing schools to recruit teachers on a full-time basis and fully restoring posts of responsibility.      The Union has also said that in advance of this, the Department of Education must immediately announce that it will allow schools to employ teachers on a permanent basis after the traditional cut-off point of the end of October and that it should do everything in its power to ensure that Irish teachers living in other jurisdictions who wish to return home do not face bureaucratic delays in registration.
