In December 2012 the public sector unions affiliated to the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, including the TUI, accepted on a without prejudice basis the government’s invitation to engage in talks on a possible extension of the Public Service (Croke Park) agreement.

The talks, which were facilitated by the LRC, commenced on 14th January and concluded on Monday, 25th February. On Tuesday, 26th February the LRC published proposals on a ‘Draft Public Service Agreement’ as the final outcome of the talks process. These proposals set out a range of measures that would have the effect of removing €1 billion from the public pay and pensions bill over a three year period up to 2016.

On Wednesday, 27th February, the TUI Executive Committee met to consider the proposals. The Executive decided to put the proposals to a ballot of TUI members and to call for members emphatically to reject the proposals.

Ballot papers issued on Thursday, 7th March to be returned by 5pm on Tuesday, 26th March. Please post by Friday 22nd March at the latest.
