Students are advised not to be disheartened if they have not yet received a CAO offer this morning.

Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) President Gerry Quinn said:

“TUI heartily congratulates students who have received CAO offers today. We wish them every success in their courses and careers of choice.  Students who have not received an offer today should not be disheartened. There is still a chance that they will be offered their chosen course in the later rounds of offers.

It is advisable that students treat any offer received as the final offer that they may get and, of course, they should read all documentation carefully.

Students should also bear in mind that hundreds of courses in the Further Education sector, particularly Post Leaving Certificate (PLC) courses - as well as being very valuable in their own right - represent a viable, alternative pathway to higher education and a chosen career. We would ask Minister O’Sullivan to ensure that the Budget cut that reduced teacher numbers in this sector from the start of the last academic year is reversed.

Institute of Technology courses are a hugely important part of publicly funded Higher Education in Ireland. They offer a very wide range of courses to Honours Degree Level and beyond. They are also inextricably linked to the labour market needs of the local community and the projected national skills needs, and this is vitally important for students in the current economic climate.”
