Thousands to attend teachers’ rally tomorrow

Thousands of teachers from schools in the Dublin area will take part in a colourful protest rally outside the Dáil tomorrow (Wednesday, October 24th) at 4.30p.m. organised by the INTO, ASTI and TUI.

Following almost four years of cuts imposed on an already under-funded education service, and with Budget 2013 looming, teachers are taking the opportunity to express their concerns and fears for the children and young people in their classrooms.

Also joining the protest are newly qualified teachers who are demanding equal pay for equal work. Most newly qualified teachers are unable to find secure teaching work and will spend the next few years subbing. Their starting salaries are 20% less than the starting salary of colleagues who entered teaching just a few years ago.

The protest rally will be addressed by the Presidents of the INTO, ASTI and TUI as well as a new teacher and a student teacher.
