Picketing at CPD venues

The TUI and ASTI picketed Department of Education and Skills’ Junior Cycle CPD venues in Monaghan and Sligo today.

The picketing follows the Department of Education and Skills’ decision to organise Junior Cycle Framework CPD for teachers of English despite the current industrial relations dispute and the ASTI/ TUI directives to union members prohibiting attendance at CPD.

The picketing by TUI Executive Committee and ASTI Standing Committee representatives aims to highlight the provocative decision by the Minister for Education and Skills and her Department to proceed with CPD at such a critical stage of this industrial relations dispute.

The ASTI and TUI representatives attending today’s picket have confirmed that members of both unions are observing their union’s directive on CPD.

Speaking from the picket line in Monaghan, ASTI President Philip Irwin and TUI President Gerry Quinn thanked members for their resolve in ensuring that the industrial action directives are observed.

TUI and ASTI representatives will continue to picket Department of Education and Skills’ Junior Cycle CPD venues over the coming days.
