New salary scales for 2011 entrants published

The Department of Education and Skills has published Circular Letter 53/2014 which implements an improved salary scale and part time rate for those who entered teaching between 1 January 2011 and 31 January 2012 (2011 Entrants). This is a very significant salary gain for this group of teachers and was secured by the teacher unions under the Haddington Road Agreement.

Essentially, the 2011 payscale is being abolished and integrated with the pre-2011 entrant payscale. 2011 graduates will now be placed on a scale which takes into account the two years already served and restores them to the equivalent of the 2010 scale for the rest of their career.

In addition, the 10% reduction applied to qualification allowances for the 2011 graduates is abolished and they will get the allowance rate applicable to the pre-2011 teachers. The gain is backdated to 1 November 2013.

Improved salary scales for the post-2012 graduates have previously been negotiated under the Haddington Road Agreement. TUI will continue to pursue salary equalisation for all teachers.
