Incorrect information in today's Irish Independent

(06 May 2011)

The information on the TUI’s general secretary salary in today’s Irish Independent is fundamentally incorrect.

As stated when queried, the general secretary position’s salary is based on the civil service Assistant Secretary grade as published in the union’s annual report. It was also confirmed that this had not been subject to a pay cut.

TUI did not state that this pay scale ranges from €131,748 to €158,644.

This scale actually runs from €131,748 to €150,712 as published in the annual report and not €158,644 as reported.

Commenting on the issue, TUI President Bernie Ruane said:

“Both TUI’s annual Congress last year and the union’s executive committee decided that head office staff would not have their pay cut. The union opposes pay cuts for anybody and accordingly refused to make cuts to the salaries of its own staff.”
