Dunnes Stores Protest, Saturday 6th June

TUI is calling for members to attend a march this Saturday, 6th June, in support of workers in Dunnes Stores, members of the Mandate and SIPTU trade unions, who are employed on low hour contracts and zero hour contracts.

The march will also be a key opportunity for the entire trade union movement to highlight the issues of precarious work and casualisation that impact on workers across all sectors. These issues have particular importance for TUI members at both second and third level, as the education sector is one in which the scourge of casualisation has taken particular hold. We estimate that 30% of the TUI membership is employed in part-time positions, many on low hours and living in income poverty.

At TUI Congress 2015, delegates passed a motion congratulating Mandate for taking action to bring to an end the disgraceful conditions – including Zero-Hour Contracts – operated by Dunnes Stores. We are now calling for all available TUI members to march in solidarity with their Mandate and SIPTU colleagues to call for secure hours and earnings, job security and the right to trade union representation, for workers in Dunnes Stores.

The protest will begin at 1pm this Saturday, June 6th, on Merrion Square, Dublin 2 and will march to Dunnes Stores Head Office on South Great Georges Street. Please assemble behind the TUI banner.
