TUI executive decides on campaign against budget measures

(11 Dec 2009)

TUI’s Executive Committee today condemned this week’s budget as retrogressive, savage and completely inequitable in its treatment of public servants.  Members of the committee brought forward recommendations from branches around the country as to what measures should be undertaken.

The union has organised a major lobby of TDs this weekend and members will also partake in a mass protest outside the Dáil on Tuesday evening between 6pm and 8pm.

The meeting decided that:

  1. TUI will campaign vigorously to restore pay cuts and maintain public service pension provision in its current form
  2. A programme of industrial action up to and including strike action be developed, preferably with the other teacher and public service unions
  3. TUI will not engage in discussion of items as part of any so-called transformation agenda
  4. A programme of work to rule for second level schools be drawn up in conjunction with the ASTI
  5. A programme of work to rule for Institutes of Technology be drawn up banning recent impositions such as PMDS and QA etc
  6. TUI no longer agrees to be bound by the Towards 2016 agreement
  7. TUI will support withdrawal from social partnership
  8. A meeting in early January will discuss further possible measures proposed by branches
